About Kayla!
Kayla Kwok-Jun Nielsen is an actress, dancer, singer, and arts administrator based in New York City.
She is a recent graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Drama. She studied Musical Theatre at the New Studio on Broadway and pursued minors in the Business of Entertainment, Media, and Technology and Hellenic Studies.
Kayla was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and has been dancing ever since she could walk. She is trained in classical ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop, and tango, but her heart especially lies with tap dancing.
At NYU, Kayla’s favorite roles include “Bebe Benzenheimer” in A Chorus Line and “Hermia” in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She originated the role of “Fanny Blood” in the world premiere of the new musical Hyena in Petticoats, which meant so much to her queer identity. She also had the privilege of honing her dance captain and swing skills, roles she adores, while earning her BFA.
As a biracial (Chinese and Danish), queer woman in the arts, Kayla is deeply passionate about shedding light on underrepresented voices and gravitates towards new art. Kayla also has a deep love for the classics and she hopes to be apart of many retellings in her artistic career.
Kayla recently closed her run of The Little Mermaid as Allana/Ensemble at the Fireside Dinner Theatre (WI). You can visit her in NYC at her Toy Soldier role at FAO Schwartz (Rockefeller Center) or at Skirball Center of the Performing Arts.
